Deborah played harlotry against God, thus the Lord sold them to king Jabin of Canaan to attack them as a punishment. Canaan punished Israel for a period of 40 years. Then Israel repented and cried to God for help. Deborah, a prophetess and wife of Lappidoth was called by God to deliver Israel. To do this, Deborah summoned Barak to raise an army of 10,000 against Jabin's army led by Sisera. Barak insisted that he would not go unless Deborah went with him. Deborah consented, but warned that the Lord would sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. Deborah arose and went with Barak to the battle front to ensure God's presence and victory. When Sisera was told that Barak had gone up to mount Tabor, he advanced with his army to attack him. Deborah ordered Barak to launch an attack on Sisera and Sisera and his army were routed. Sisera escaped and took refuge in the house of Jael where he was murdered.

One day, Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. A man met him and said he wanted to follow him. Jesus told the man that foxes have holes and birds have nests but the son of man has no place to lay his head.

Jesus himself asked another man to follow him but the man said he should be allowed to go and bury his father before he comes to follow Jesus. Jesus told him that he should allow the dead to bury their dead. Jesus told the man to go and spread the word of God.

A third person said he was willing to follow Jesus, but he should be allowed to go and inform family and say farewell to them before following. Jesus told this would-be disciple that anyone who puts his hand to the plough and looks back is not fit for the kingdom.

The man who demanded to follow Jesus thought it was a thing of pleasure to follow Jesus as a disciple. So the answer Jesus gave was to let this man know that following him was a sacrificial thing and that it is full of suffering.

Another man said he wanted to go and bury his father. When Jesus said to let the dead bury their dead, he was saying that the disciples must forget about the cares of the world they are leaving behind as they followed Jesus. The disciples must be ready to give up everything.

Another man wanted to go and bid goodbye to his family before he comes to follow Jesus. Jesus’ reply means that following him required a total and full commitment. Every other relationship is less important than the relationship with God.

(i) Lack of mentorship: Mentorship is also vital to Christian discipleship. Jesus mentored the Twelve to know him and to re-present God's love in the world. Even as he reminded them servants are not greater than their masters, he washed their feet. A spiritual mentor knows that the most important thing in life is to have a personal relationship with Christ, so they encourage you to invest in this relationship. The purpose of a mentor is to help Christians grow as a person and be committed to the work of God.

(ii) Job commitment: Christian's commitment to their works and working hours prevent them from committing to the work of God. We must uphold God in our homes, in our workplaces and in every other place we go, and make God visible in everything that we think, say and do. We must make our faith real and put it into action and we must choose to do so, every day of our lives.

(iii) Peer pressure: People’s expectations or desires for us can cause us to conform to the behaviour that we think will help us look better in the eyes of others. This phenomenon is known as peer pressure. Peer pressure can sometimes lead to ungodly actions or sinning. This hinders Christians from committing to the work of God.

According to Luke teaching at Caiaphas' house, Jesus is mocked and beaten. He is accused of claiming to be both the Messiah and the Son of God. Although the Gospel accounts vary with respect to some of the details, they agree on the general character and overall structure of the trials of Jesus.

(i) James admonished Christians to show no partiality to anyone (rich or poor) but to accept others as they are equal before God.
(ii)They are ambassadors of Christ and hold the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ.
(iii) As an example, James pointed out that a man who is well dressed and the poor man in shabby clothes should be treated equally.
(iv) If preferential treatment is given to the rich man over the poor man, then one is guilty of partiality.
(v) Showing partiality is not only causing division but also, assuming the role of judges with evil intentions or thought.
(vi) To this end, no distinction should be made among Christians, for God does not make distinctions.
(vii) James further taught that God has chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to become heirs of the kingdom.
(viii) In showing partiality, the poor man has been dishonoured.
(ix) The rich who is honoured and favoured when shown partiality is the one who oppresses the poor and drags him to court.
(x) Worst still, the rich blasphemes the honourable name of God..
(xi) To this end, it is imperative to fulfill the royal law which states that one should love ones' neighbour as oneself.
(xii) When one commits partiality, one commits sin and is convicted by the law
(xiii) He who keeps all but one law fails in all.
(xiv) To illustrate this, James said that God ordered Christians not to commit adultery and at the same time not to kill.
(xv) However, breaking one of them will make one guilty of violating all aspects of the law. Both the adulterer and the murderer are transgressors.
(xvi) Therefore Christians should speak and act like those cognizance of the law.
(xvii) For judgment is without mercy to one who shows no mercy.
(xviii) However, mercy triumphs over judgment/justice is tempered with mercy.
